Chaz Salvatore Bono (born Chastity Sun Bono, March 4, 1969, Los Angeles, California) is an American writer, musician, actor, and social activist. He became famous as a child in the TV show The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. He is a transman, he self-identified as a lesbian in a leading American gay monthly magazine. Bono also discussed the process of coming out to oneself and to others in his two books. Between 2008-2010 he underwent surgery for gender transition, and he legally changed his gender and name. Chaz Bono’s transition motivated and helped him to start his weight loss journey. Bono set his goal in November 2012  to shed 50 pounds but he lost 60 pounds in May 2013. His remarkable achievement surprised everyone and now he is sticking to his diet, and workout regime, and focusing on high-protein foods and vegetables.

Chaz Bono’s Weight Loss Diet

Chaz Bono tweeted about his weight loss diet on Twitter. He said, he completely avoided sugar, white starch, grains, dairy product, and goat cheese and included protein and fiber-rich food like meat, fruits, vegetables, etc. in his diet. He eats fruits in between meals to satisfy his hunger. 

Initially, he followed Freshology Meal Plan by which he lost 50 pounds, later he learned to cook his food in different ways and doesn’t need any meal plan anymore.  He eats meals cooked in different ways so he won’t get bored with the same food. He only eats cake once a year which is on his birthday. 

Talking about his new chapter of life he said, “ I’ve changed the way I eat. Diets do not work. You have to change what you eat and I have.”

Chaz Bono’s Workout Routine

  • Low-Intensity Cardio 

Low-Intensity Cardio is very helpful for the beginner to lose weight. It includes walking, jogging, cycling, swimming, and aerobics.

  • Jump Ropes

Jumping ropes is another great way to burn calories and lose weight faster. It increases heart rate, improves coordination, and makes you fit.

  • High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

A high-Intensity workout is great for those trying to lose pounds and burn calories in a short duration. This is not for beginners, but slowly you can start it. HIIT includes a set of exercises performed continuously with an interval of 20 seconds between the different exercises. 

  • Burpees

Burpees are a whole-body exercise. It includes squats, jumps, and pushups. It improves blood flow, and brain function, and strengthens the whole body. 

  • Lunges

Lunges are great to strengthen your leg muscles. You can do forward or backward lunges. 

  • Pushups

Pushups are great for upper body strength. It strengthens the core and increases muscle mass in your arms. 

  • Deadlifts

The deadlift is a weight training exercise for both the upper and lower body. It improves strength, helps in fat loss, burns more calories, and promotes muscle growth.

  • Step-ups

Step-ups are a basic exercise that you can do anywhere. It strengthens the lower body muscles and enhances stabilization.  

  • Kettlebell Swings

Kettlebell is a full-body exercise that burns fat and promotes muscle growth. It strengthens abs, shoulder, glutes, pecs, quads, hips, and hamstrings. 

Chaz is Struggling with Obesity since Childhood

Chaz Bono grew up in a thin family. Due to this, he had too much pressure to look underweight though he was not overweight still was put on diets all the time to control his weight. This constant pressure resulted in weight gain in the coming years.

Bono doesn’t have weight loss surgery, he lost weight with his diet and workout regime. After losing weight, he underwent surgery to remove excess loose skin near his stomach area.
